DIY Wedding Favours: Rhubarb Schnapps

It’s great saving money when it comes to planning your big day, so why not make your very own DIY wedding favours for your guests? This week we’re creating rhubarb schnapps – they’re so tasty and so cheap!

Rhubarb Schnapps

To make 1 Litre you will need:

Approx 1kg of Rhubarb to make 600g trimmed weight

300g Caster Sugar

1 Litre Vodka, plus more if needed

2 x 2 Litre Jars (£11 for 2)

Glass Bottles to decant the schnapps into as wedding favours (£8.50 for 12)

1 Jar Edible Gold Flakes (optional)

How to make it:

Step 1:

Chop the rhubarb and divide it between the two jars.

Step 2:

Add 150g Sugar to each Jar

Step 3:

Put the lids on and shake well.

Step 4:

Pour 500ml of vodka into each jar (it should fill each jar… if not add some more).

Step 5:

Close the lids and place somewhere cool and dark for at least 6 weeks… and up to 6 months.

If you remember try to shake the jars every day, or every other day, for the first month or so.

Step 6:
When ready strain into a jug, then pour into your bottles.

Step 7:

Add a little gold leaf, for decoration and then decorate your bottles.

It was said on the video that there was a way of not using alcohol, yet I can’t find it on the blog. Please could it be posted? If you have any other recipes like this, fantastic too!
